WOmen in ancient Greece
Greeks weren't too respectful to women which they wouldn't pay too much attention to in ancient greece. Women weren't to be treated with respect whatsoever, all the women would do is supervise the servants, make clothes, check on the weat, and cook. The rich women were to stay indoors and attend the household and stay mainly in their gunaikeion (room which they were to spend most of their lives in). Women in ancient greece were to always have a kyrios (a male guardian) the guardian could either be their husband or their fathers. The women would be fed as little as possible, due to the greeks not really caring for the women. Women would be taught at a young age how to keep their mouths clothed as little as possible, and also not see as much things as a normal person would. In Greece women would not normally be seen around, because the majority of them would be at home, and because back in ancient Greece when a baby would be grown the men would usually order the mothers to get rid of the baby. They would only want to have a baby boy. The Athenian women in ancient greece once turned sixteen years old would be forced to marry to men that were usually near their thirty years old. The fathers would force them to marry and would pay for all arrangements. The bride would have to go to the temple of Artemis (which is the temple of Athena sister which is goddess of the moon and virgins) they would go and gift their toys from youth to the temple, then they would cut their hair short, and take a bath in holy water. After all this they would have one last meal with their family. After done with the meal the groom would arrive with their friends and the groom would carry the bride out in order to show that he owned her. Their would not be any kind of ceremony for the wedding, but the groom's friends would still sing ritual songs. If the bride would want to divorce the groom she could just simply go back to her father, and if the groom would want to a divorce the groom could just order the bride to leave the household with no discussion .These weddings would usually occur during the month Gamelion (January) because this would be known as the month of marriages. A few men would think that women would be important so they would just order the women to stay in their rooms just care for the house. Women would not usually be allowed to attend festivals and etc if their guardian did not give permission. Once men would be at war the women and slaves will be forced to take part in the political party and discuss philosophy. The women wouldn't be recognized for anything they would do. Men wouldn't appreciate what the women at all that they would even have affairs with multiple women, while the wife would be forced to stay in their rooms. But in modern day Greece women are treated with respect as they deserve, and are not forced to stay quiet or be forced to have a male guardian. The women still do house chores and many other essential activities a regular women would do in todays modern world.
