THe Great Homer
Many myths were created by the Greeks, but earliest record of the first epic poem by Homer was back in 800 BCE, which was the sequel of the Iliad which was also another epic poem written by the famous Homer. Homer was an author in the ancient times that began the roots of ancient writing. Homer had a huge impact in poetry due to his epic poems the Iliad, the Odyssey, and many more poems. Not much is known by Homer, but historians say he was born in Chios even though many cities claim that Homer was born in the other cities. The book the Odyssey and the Iliad are said to be written by different authors due to the writings in both poems. Historians also say that Homer would have been blind due to his exaggerations in the two poems. The Iliad is based on the beginning of the voyage of the great hero of Odysseus when he was sailing back to his homeland Ithaca from Troy. In the beginning of the poem Odysseus gets a box from the gods which he was told not to open in order to get home to Ithaca safely(Which would take him just a week). When Odysseus set sail he made sure to keep the box away from his soldiers in order for them not to open it. The soldiers became curious of what was in the box, so when Odysseus went to sleep the men sneaked to where he was and took the box which later they opened releasing a bunch of winds and dangerous storms. This caused the ship to set off sail, and then they were lost in sea. Later they found a island which they parked in, so Odysseus sent five of his troops to look around the island, and then the soldiers found a woman said to be some kind of wizard which turned four of the men to pigs. The fifth troop managed to escape the wizard and went to warn Odysseus about the wizard and what she had done to the men. Odysseus quickly went to where the wizard was and tried to convince the wizard to turn his men back to humans, which she said the only way she would do that is if he would sleep with her. So the brave Odysseus agreed in sake of his men and went with the wizard which she said would only be a few hours, turned into ten years. This happened because the wizard made time seem so slow for Odysseus for he wouldn't find out how long the affair had been. When Odysseus found out about how long the affair had been he finally fled with the remaining of his men which ends “the iliad”, then leads into the next poem “the Odyssey”.
