The Olympics
The Olympics was first created in Greece and the very first Olympic game was held at Athens, then was held at Olympus. The Olympus occurred during 776 BC until twelve decades later they finished and wasn't brought back until 1503 years later when a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin brought the idea of bringing the Olympic games back. Back in ancient Greece the only event was running a 6oo meter sprint for the first 13 Olympic events then there were more events added. People came from all over the world as they do today to watch the event. The men who competed in the Olympic races would run completely nude. Whomever would win an Olympic event would be rewarded and treasured by many people. It was said that whomever would win the race would be worshiped by the people at their village and would be given food, gifts, clothing, and sometimes would get to eat anything they would desire for free for the rest of their lives. Another gift to whomever would win a race would be given the pleasure to be able to fight in the front line in any upcoming war, they would be top ranked and have their own platoon just for winning an Olympic event. For example, back when the Athenians were being attacked by about 100, 000 Persians the Athenians were on the front line on their own, but didn't back down the commander of the Athenians army sent an Olympic champion named Philippines who had won a race and was sent on a 140 mile race to Sparta in order to request backup for the war which would be later known as the marathon race. The run to Sparta took Pheidippides about 36 hours and asked the Spartans for their help with the war, the Spartans agreed to the request, but did not aid the Athenians until there was a full moon(this was because religious laws) then Pheidippides had to run back to Sparta to deliver the news, which led to the Athenians having to fight the Persian empire on their own, until the Spartans came to the Athenians aid and helped defeat the attempt of the Persians to conquer Athens. Later after fighting Pheidippides had to go notify everyone about the news of their victory which was exhausting for him due to having running to Sparta and back and then fighting with heavy Armour for 3 straight hours, and then he had to go and notify everyone about the news, this eventually led to his death due to exhaustion.
